On Friday, July 6th, Sandy had her first public art showing through the Neverland Gallery of Fine Art at the Pendleton Art Center in Middletown, Ohio. She displayed 15 drawings containing portraits of characters and stars from the earlier days of Hollywood. There was a great turn out for the show, and she would like to thank everyone that took time out of their busy days to come out and support her! She also wants to give a special thanks to Trey L.A. for giving her the opportunity to display her art in his gallery!
Here Sandy is with Norman Reedus at an event hosted by Horror Hound Magazine in Columbus, Ohio. The event was great and she plans on attending more of these events in the years to come. Norman is currently playing the character of Daryl Dixon on the hit TV series, The Walking Dead. Norman has also been in movies such as The Boondock Saints, Blade II, and many others. It was truly an honor for her to meet and present Norman with a piece of her artwork! His kind words to her will never be forgotten!
It was truly an honor for Sandy to meet Tony DiTerlizzi! Sandy and her daughter have been enjoying his work since they first laid eyes on it. Sandy was able to meet him at an event named "Imagining the Fantastic" at Central Michigan University. Tony is a New York Times bestselling author and illustrator. His work includes books like, Jimmy Zangwow Out of this World Moon Pie Adventure, Adventure of Meno, The Spider and The Fly, Kenny and The Dragon, and The Search for WondLa. Sandy and her daughters favorite series, The Spiderwick Chronicles, has sold millions of copies, and been adapted into a feature film.
It was an absolute pleasure for Sandy to meet her childhood idols Brian and Wendy Froud. Wendy is a sculptor and puppet builder, while Brian is regarded as the most premier authority on faeries in the world. Both worked with Jim Henson for many years, worked on many motion pictures, and have written numerous books. Some of the motion pictures they have worked on are The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Empire Strikes Back, The Muppet Show and Movie, and many others. Sandy met the Frouds attending Imagining the Fantastic, and also won a Froudian Artist Award in 2010.
Sandy met Dr. Ari Berk at Imagining the Fantastic at Central Michigan University. He is an absolutely wonderful person and the author of numerous books for children and adults. His latest books are Death Watch, The Life and
Times of William Shakespeare (with Kristen McDermott), The Secret History of Hobgoblins, The Secret History of Giants, The Secret History of Mermaids, How to Be a Viking, and Coyote Speaks -- Wonders of the Native American World (with Carolyn Dunn). He is also the author of The Runes of Elfland, Goblins! and Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Letters (all three with internationally known artist Brian Froud). Dr. Berk was one of the sponsors of the Imagining the Fantastic event and it was a pleasure for Sandy to meet him!
